* Seasons: Costa Rica is a great destination to visit year round. There are two distinct seasons. Dry season occurs during the months of December to April, which also corresponds with the international high season travel period (Christmas to Easter). The weather in Nosara during this season is sunny and dry, with crystal clear skies blazing with stars, beautiful beach weather, and prevailing offshore breezes. The surf is usually in the chest to head high region daily with occasional larger swell pulses from the north. The rainy season occurs from May through November, with sunny mornings and refreshing afternoon showers the predominant weather pattern. Occasionally a “rain event” will occur and it can rain for a couple of days straight. These conditions tend to be more likely in late September and October. The rainy season is also south swell season, and the southern hemisphere wave machine produces very consistent overhead surf which rarely drops below head high.
* Need to Bring: Sunscreen, insect repellent lotion, flashlight, rash guard, hat, sun glasses, light clothing, inexpensive beach flip flops, good book, small travel umbrella (rainy season), basic first aid kit.
* Spendin’ Money: Dollars or Colones are the easiest form of payment for goods and services in Nosara. Travelers checks may also work, but merchants are sometimes reluctant to accept them.
Credit cards are accepted in only a few establishments. (The Nosara Beach Hotel does not accept credit cards). There are no banks in Nosara, and the nearest ATM is in Nicoya, a two hour drive away. It’s best to come prepared with cash! The Nosara Beach Hotel accepts cash on arrival, or you can pre-pay by check in the states. Please e-mail greece@racsa.co.cr for details.
* Directions: From San Jose take the Pan American Highway west towards Puntarenas. Nearing Puntarenas the road veers north - follow the signs to Liberia, and eventually you take the turn off for the ‘Amistad de Tiawan’ Bridge. Once you have crossed over the Gulf of Nicoya, head to the town of Nicoya. From Nicoya, head west towards Samara, and take the turn off onto dirt road right after the big gas station on the left. >From here it is a bumpy 50 minute drive to Nosara (follow the signs). Once in Nosara, follow the ‘Hotel Playas de Nosara’ and ‘Panchos’ signs to the hotel. The maze of roads in Nosara will have you confused for a day or two, but you will eventually become orientated! From the Liberia Airport, head south to Nicoya, and follow above directions.
* Int. Flights: Most major airlines maintain daily scheduled flights into San Jose or Liberia airports. Once there you can select your mode of transportation.
* By Bus: Busses are the mainstay of low budget “local” travel modalities, and if you have patience and a healthy sense of adventure, you can find a way to get where you are going inexpensively and have some great experiences in the process. In San Jose, all bus routes emanate from the “Coca Cola Bus Depot”. Most busses are equipped with luggage racks, so bringing a surfboard and gear should not create a problem. Don’t hesitate to talk to the folks around you to find out the latest on schedules, travel tales, etc. Bus travel is a great way to “make it up as you go along”.
* By Van: A hired van can be arranged to meet you at the airport and a personal driver will take you to your destination and usually point out the sites on the way. The Nosara Beach Hotel works exclusively with a transfer company called Ecotrans, who can deliver safe, reliable transportation for 1 to 44 passengers and luggage. We can arrange private transfers from San Jose or Liberia airports to the hotel. Please e-mail for rates, reservations, and details.
* By Rental Car: There are several rental car services in Costa Rica. The renting driver must be 21 years of age and have a major credit card in their name for the insurance deductible. A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended (but usually not required) to get to Nosara. It is also possible to have a rental car delivered to the hotel. We have had good results with Economy and Hola:

* By Plane: Sansa and Nature Air maintain daily flights from San Jose to Nosara.
There are luggage restrictions and longboards won’t get on! For more information and reservations please go to their websites:

Wishlist: Out here on the edge of the primordial jungle, we are always in need
of something. If you so are inclined, your contribution of books, games, medical supplies, DVD’s, sunscreen, etc. are greatly appreciated and will earn you a beer at sunset!
